At Kiddicare Nursery, the health, safety, and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We maintain rigorous standards and robust procedures to ensure a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where children can learn, play, and develop with confidence. Our practice follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework and reflects current safeguarding and welfare guidance.

Qualified & Trained Staff

Our dedicated team of qualified practitioners follows strict protocols to ensure children’s safety at all times. All staff:
  • Undergo appropriate background and suitability checks
  • Receive regular training in safeguarding, health and safety, paediatric first aid, hygiene, and emergency procedures
  • Are trained in the safe administration of medication, in line with our Medication Policy
A designated Health and Safety Lead is present at all times to oversee procedures and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

Safe & Secure Facilities

Our nursery premises are designed with children’s safety in mind. We carry out regular inspections and ongoing risk assessments throughout the day to identify and minimise potential hazards.
  • Indoor and outdoor play areas are carefully organised
  • Equipment and resources are age-appropriate, well maintained, and checked regularly
  • Children are supervised at all times to support safe exploration and learning

Supervision & Staff-to-Child Ratios

We strictly follow EYFS statutory staff-to-child ratios to ensure children receive high-quality care and attention:
  • 1:3 for children aged 0–2 years
  • 1:5 for children aged 2–3 years
  • 1:8 for children aged 3–5 years
Staff deployment is carefully planned to maintain ratios across all areas of the nursery, including during outdoor play and transitions.

Hygiene & Infection Control

We maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene to support children’s health and wellbeing, including:
  • Regular cleaning and disinfecting routines
  • Effective handwashing practices
  • Safe nappy-changing procedures
  • Clear illness and infection control guidance
These measures help prevent the spread of germs and promote a healthy environment for all children.

Nutrition & Mealtime Safety

Children are provided with nutritious meals and snacks prepared in line with dietary guidance. We take food safety seriously and give careful attention to:
  • Food hygiene and safe preparation
  • Allergies and dietary requirements
  • Supporting children to develop independence and positive mealtime routines safely

Emergency Preparedness & First Aid

All staff are trained in paediatric first aid and emergency response procedures. Clear protocols are in place for:
  • Accidents and incidents

  • Fire safety and evacuations
Risk assessments are completed for outings and special activities to ensure children remain safe beyond the nursery environment.

Safeguarding & Secure Arrangements

  • Secure entry systems are in place
  • All visitors are required to sign in and remain supervised
  • Children are only released to authorised adults
  • Attendance is recorded accurately in line with EYFS requirements
Safeguarding is embedded into everyday practice, and staff understand their responsibility to protect children and report any concerns promptly.
