Children’s Development and Learning

At Kiddicare Nursery, children’s development and learning are at the heart of everything we do. Our experienced team of qualified practitioners, including Level 3 and Level 5 Early Years educators, work together to provide high-quality care and education for children of all ages.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which supports children’s learning and development across seven areas of learning. Our curriculum is flexible and child-centred, allowing staff to respond to each child’s individual needs, interests, and stage of development.

The Seven Areas of Learning

Communication and Language

Children are supported to develop listening, understanding, and speaking skills.
For example: learning new vocabulary, understanding simple concepts such as big and small, and expressing their ideas through play and conversation.

Physical Development

Children are encouraged to develop both fine and gross motor skills through active play.
For example: pushing, throwing, catching, climbing, balancing, and developing hand control through mark making and play.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We support children to build confidence, independence, and positive relationships.
For example: learning to play alongside others, share and take turns, talk about their feelings, and develop a sense of belonging.

Literacy

Children are introduced to books, stories, songs, and early mark making in meaningful ways.
For example: enjoying stories, talking about pictures, and beginning to suggest ideas or endings to familiar stories.

Mathematics

Mathematical learning is embedded into everyday routines and play.
For example: counting objects, exploring numbers, enjoying filling and emptying containers, and learning about shape, size, and measure.

Understanding the World

Children are supported to learn about their environment, people, and the wider world.
For example: talking about family events, exploring nature, learning about plants and animals, and celebrating different cultures and traditions.

Expressive Arts and Design

Children are encouraged to explore creativity and imagination.
For example: mixing colours, exploring different materials, role play, music, movement, and art activities.

How Children Learn at Kiddicare

Children learn best through play, exploration, and active experiences. At Kiddicare Nursery, learning takes place both indoors and outdoors, through child-initiated and adult-led activities. Practitioners support learning through positive interactions, observation, and carefully planned experiences that build on children’s interests and strengths.
